"Stellage” is the name of the collective—composed of Gabetti & Isola and Raineri—that won the competition launched in 1952 by the Turin Chamber of Commerce for the design and setup of the building and furnishings of the new Stock Exchange. The name itself is a statement of intent: the term refers to a particular type of financial contract that minimizes the potential loss of an operation. This highly successful gamble led the chair to become a design icon and to be included in major collections, such as the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York.

The result of an intimate and personal research process, the project stands out for its unique and highly recognizable style. Crafted by skilled Turin artisans with great expertise and meticulous attention to detail, the armchair embodies the neoliberty style characteristic of the Piedmontese capital, for which the Studio would become a spokesperson in Italy. In its original edition, the structure—made of ebonized beechwood—features curvilinear, harmonious forms finished with metal joints and exposed screws that lend it an elegant and refined appearance, while the upholstery is in Resinflex, an elastic and weather-resistant material.

The previously unreleased design of the armchair—now named “Stellage 52”—originates from the idea and initiative of Lodovico Gabetti and Fabrizio Pellegrino, already active in the reedition of Gabetti & Isola furnishings with the Gabab studio in Turin, and from their encounter with Franco Ceccotti. This valuable collaboration enabled the production and market release of the armchair for the first time, seventy years after its creation for the Turin Stock Exchange. The new edition respects the original design with a number of structural and decorative enhancements, such as fully redesigned metal brackets to improve seating stability and the use of leather upholstery. The finishes are in solid American walnut in the various catalog colors, while the joining elements envisioned in the previous project to secure the padding remain concealed, leaving only the head of a single screw visible.

Stellage 52 is part of the Masters Tribute line promoted by Ceccotti Collezioni, in which the Tuscan company, drawing on its artisanal and design expertise, reintroduces several design classics.

The partnership between Roberto Gabetti and Aimaro Isola spanned from 1950 to 2000 and was one of the most productive collaborations within modern and contemporary architecture. Giorgio Raineri was a member of Gabetti & Isola’s firm from 1951 to 1969 and collaborated with them on many projects, including their winning bid to design the Turin Stock Exchange.
