Mario Gottardi

Mario Gottardi was an architect and designer who lived during the 20th century.
Born in Venice in 1913, he moved to Milan in 1939, where he began an intense and multifaceted career, ranging from urban planning to restoration, from public to private construction, as well as naval interior design and furnishings for hotls and theaters.

During the same years, he also began working on major projects in his hometown, such as the restoration of Palazzo Mocenigo il Nero and Palazzo Contarini delle Figure on the Grand Canal, and, in later years, the design of the interiors of the Hotel Bauer Grünwald, also in Venice.

In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked on projects for important tourist complexes in Turkey, while in Italy he designed and renovated office and residential centers in Brescia and Milan

Throughout his career, he successfully took part in numerous competitions, winning at different times those for the ocean liners Cristoforo Colombo (1953), Leonardo da Vinci (1958), Raffaello (1962), and Michelangelo (1966), for which he designed the interiors. He also participated in competitions for the Regione Lombardia’s Standard Project Catalogue, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, “Three Churches for the Year 2000,” and Piazza del Duomo in Milan.

Alongside this work, throughout his career, he designed prestigious villas and luxury apartments, also overseeing their interiors.
His brilliant activity continued until his death in 2004.
